Singer-songwriter Jane Voss and pianist Hoyle Osborne deliver a singular musical mix that might be categorized as cabaret folk. Osborne is a consummate accompanist demonstrating his chops on a couple of instrumental outings, notably the Dixielandish “Rum and Soda.” Voss is a supple, dramatic singer who owes as much to Sarah Vaughn as she does to Joan Baez. Most of the songs, such as the moving “I’m Gonna Stick by You” and the title tune, were penned by Voss, but well-chosen tunes by Rosalie Sorrels, Connie Kaldor, and Shelley Posen are thrown in as well. Instrumental accompaniment is by a full, jazzy band, and Voss is given vocal support by Joy of Cooking alumna Terry Garthwaite. This is a warm recording, alternately swinging and soothing, that is recommended late night listening. (Dirty Linen)
