We knew Iris Dement and Rosalie Sorrels a long time before we heard of Jane Voss but now we know where they got their inspiration.
Iris has the same twang in her voice and Rosalie got the same love for great, socially inspired lyrics.
Jane has this special ability to mix different styles (old-time country, blues, zydeco, Celtic, etc.). She lets it sound as traditional Carter-Family-style music.
This CD (is like) a great novel, never a little bit boring, always surprising. It is realised with the help of some of the finest musicians and singers in the field: Jody Stecher and Kate Brislin (what a voice), Eric and Suzy Thompson, Bill Evans, Steven Strauss and Mayne Smith. And... the splendid piano of her husband Hoyle Osborne. Let us hope that Jane will soon decide to reissue her old LP "An Album of Songs" on CD.
"Free at Last" is our favourite track.
