JANE VOSS: Farther Down the Road (RIPPLE 004)
I've known Jane for close to 30 years and have followed her musical and songwriting career through some pretty wild swings during that time. This album marks a swing back to the Jane of a long time ago…I can't say exactly how long ago. It's a return to her California roots back in Mike Cogan's Bay Records studio, surrounded by friends, making music with everyone gathered around listening and watching each other with minimal overdubs.
Her partner of some 22 years, Hoyle Osborne acted as producer and pianist, and the list of great musicians who join Jane is simply amazing. Backup vocals here and there by Kate Brislin, Suzy Thompson, Ray Bierl, and Larry Hanks conjure up memories of late night sessions at the old Fox Hollow Festival here in upstate New York. She's back to her vocal and songwriting roots.
The songs will bring tears to your eyes not only for the words, but some of Jane's melodies are tear-jerkers all by themselves. A nice booklet with all the lyrics is included. I love it!
